seo-wordpress-plugin.jpgStephen Spencer has just released what he views as the most important Wordpress plugin for SEO. As you probably know, title tags are given a lot of weight by search engines and one of the main on-site factors which can affect your search engine rankings.
To put it very simply, title tags are simply the words that you see at the top of your browser window. In the Search Engine Results Page (SERP), this little description will appear as the title of the webpage.
How well you rank in the search engines partly depends on what words you have in the title tag. You’ll want your keywords in the title because this increases the likelihood of visitors hitting your website through searches using the specific keywords or phrases.
Spencer describes the SEO Title Tag 2.0 Beta plugin:
SEO Title Tag makes is dead-easy to optimize the title tags across your WordPress-powered blog or website. Not just your posts, not just your home page, but any and every title tag on your site!
If this plugin, along with a few hours of keyword research and copywriting of optimized titles, doesn’t make a significant impact on your search traffic, you’re doing something wrong!
Here’s a run down of some of the features:
* Allows you to override a page’s or a post’s title tag with a custom one.
* Mass editing of title tags for all posts, static pages, category pages, tag pages, tag conjunction pages, archive by month pages, — indeed, any URL — all in one go.
* A Title Tag input box in the Edit Post and Write Post forms.
* Title tags of category pages can optionally be set to the category description

You can actually tweak the title tags manually by changing the codes in your template but Spencer’s SEO Title Tag plugin makes the whole process much easier. The plugin also allows you to edit Title tags on-the-fly as and when you feel the need to change them for any specific page.
The ability to mass edit all post and static pages also makes it very helpful when you want to insert specific keywords in all pages on your website.
If you’re new to Title Tags or have never manually hacked the template to change your title tag, the SEO Title Tag plugin will come in very handy indeed.
I’ve installed and gave it a test run. It does work beautifully and I think its a Wordpress SEO plugin that is worth a look if you desire better SERP rankings.
