Employees : Can't Live With 'Em, Can't Fire Them Without Good Reason

Employees. They are a necessity, I guess, until cloning becomes a reality, that is. At that point, you can clone yourself one hundred times and have the ideal workforce. But, right now, you have to have employees and the relationships between the employer and employees have to be organised and managed professionally.

As I said in the title of this piece, you can't just fire employees without good reason no matter how much you would sometimes like to.

The serious point is this: in order that your relations with your employees are smooth, you need to have strong, clear personnel policies and procedures in place. It's no good writing something down on the back of a cigarette packet and calling that your employee handbook. It's just not going to cut it, I'm afraid.

Even the smallest companies can benefit from professional designed pay and bonus schemes and personnel policies. The easiest way to get these is to use an external HR consultant who can help draw up your human resources policies and procedures. Good HR consultants don't come cheap, but their value can be huge further down the line in dealing with employee grievances, absense issues and all the other employer-employee concerns that can arise.
